The Ford 8.8 is tried and true, used in many kit cars and custom builds. It is rock solid. The mounting kit harnesses the 8.8 from the 1989-97 T-Bird, 1993-97 Mark VIII, or the 2003-04 Cobra (31 spline) - . The mount is designed to eliminate twist and flex without relying on the subframe brace mounting points – which were not designed to support these components. This also means you can retain the factory bracing. The carrier is offered in both steel and aluminum and has a wide variety of ratios and positive traction carriers available. The 8.8 is bulkier and heavier than the Getrag, but still offers enough clearance for a 2.75″ exhaust system. It`s what we recommend for the drag racers and customers with higher power goals or that need a specific ratio. Stage 1 kits are suited for up to 400whp builds and are designed to work with the factory hubs. Stage 2(600hp) & stage 3(950hp) kits include upgrade forged hubs and ARP studs. Chose the drive shaft material that best suits your application. We do recommend the upgraded aluminum shaft for drive ability and the reduced rotating mass. Powder coated in silver vain gray.

Kits include – axles stage 1,2, or 3, differential mount, and driveshaft for selected transmission or without drive shaft for custom applications of trans swaps. To order without the drive shaft please select no transmission and no drive shaft. We also carry these Driveline Kits for Stock MX5 Transmissions.

Replacement Parts: Replacement 8.8 Driveline Kit Bushings

PLEASE NOTE – because of the large number of axle combinations, axles are built to order. Lead times vary but typically run 4-6 weeks. Kit does not include the differential -  differential is sourced by the customer.

What is the difference between a cobra and t-bird diff? I'm assuming its the pinion flange? I have a 31 spline differential from an Explorer and I was wondering what was compatible. chris bourre asked on November 24, 2023

HI Chris - yes, the pinion flange is larger for the Cobra models. We can build the axles to suit Explorer. It use that housing the rear cover must be swapped to the T-bird/cobra style.

In regard to your Kits. Do you have to buy the whole kit or can you buy parts,IE. the axles,Mounting plates,Or Drive shaft As separate pieces. Also what is the stage 1,2,3 differences. I have the pumpkin already. I need axles and the mounts.Axles to go from the 8.8 to a rx8 outer. I'm putting in the rx8 rear uprights and hubs so the axles would need to accomadate that. Thanks Rick R. G. asked on May 22, 2023

Hi Rick - we do sell individual components if required. The stage difference are for the axles & drive shaft for greater power handling. Please contact us via email with your specific needs.

What are the difference's in the carrier 28 and 31? And does it come as fully assembly, diff and frame? Scott Newlin asked on August 6, 2021

Hi Scott - The differential is source by the customer. The Ford IRS are available in 28 or 31 spline carriers and the axles are purchased to match the carrier.

what does the carrier option mean? and also what's the difference between the two t56 options? Jose asked on January 8, 2021

Hi Jose - the carrier is the spline count for the axles- I.E. 28 or 31spline. The standard T56 option is for the earlier 27 spline output shaft. The 31 spline is for the later model Magnum-F and T56 transmissions with the Viper output shaft.
