Stronger Modular Tubular MX5 Rear Subframe
Miata Tubular Rear Subframe. We've spent over 7 years developing and testing the ultimate MX-5 rear subframe upgrade for NA & NB Miata chassis. The development process started with 3D scanning and reverse engineering the OEM subframe. Hundreds of hours or CAD development and testing with multiple renditions of the design allowing us to create a singular base structure that enables the use of several differential options by integrating the mounting points into the subframe and billet adapter brackets. Our rear sub is manufactured from start to finish in-house at the V8R headquarters using the latest tube processing equipment, which allows us to build this subframe using tab & slot function, and final welding in a precision fixture. All NB suspension pick up points, exhaust hanger locations, and brake line mounting points are integrated into the subframe for easy adapting with the other OEM Miata components for seamless. NB lower control brace is designed to bolt up like stock with additional exhaust routing clearance designed into the mounting points. This is the most versatile rear subframe upgrade on the market. Works with all V8R differential swap kits from all generation just choose the current differential you are using, no additional parts required. Powder coated in silver vain gray.
- V8R subframe is designed as a race component for off-road use. It will increase NVH!
- Modular design can adapt several different differential options (Ford 8.8, Getrag, Torson - coming soon) within the same frame
- Weight reduction over the OEM subframe with V8R differential swap kits of 10-15lbs
- Works with NB subframe bracing
- Additional exhaust clearance built into the lower mounting points for ease of routing
- Machined aluminum & fabricated differential mounts
- Increase rigidity over OEM greatly increases rear chassis stiffening
- Works with OEM control arms & aftermarket
- Integrated sway bar, NB exhaust hanger, and brake line mounting points
- DOM tubing construction
Is not compatible with all exhaust systems ***products may vary from image***

Hi Gabriel,
Please find link for the Ford 8.8 Driveline Kits (the explorer years are listed here) - https://v8roadsters.com/product/ford-8-8-driveline-v8-swap-kits/
You can buy the entire package like in question under the drive line kit, too.
Best regards,
Hi Robert - the current offering will not suit the stock diff. We have a stock diff version is testing and it will be released in the coming months.
Hi Carlos - the subframe for stock rear is in testing and will be released over the coming months.

8.8 Cobra… it works and it seems strong
After twisting the crap out of my stock rear subframe and repairing it multiple times I caved and bought a v8r subframe. I bought it expecting it to take 6 months to get here (I bought my swap parts back in 2021 and some of them took over 8 months) and was pleasantly surprised to find at my doorstep in a week!
The good:
-Fits my lightly ground down ford racing diff cover (I would personally recommend the LPW cover if you don’t want the hassle)
-The overall design looks reasonably strong
-Alignment was surprisingly good out of the box
-I had no issues mounting it to the car with the four stock nuts
-Looks sexy and came with some nice billet pieces and allen hardware
-Came with assembly instructions… I guess they listened to their past reviews
-Was packaged nicely with extra reinforcement on the box where it would be likely to fail in shipping
-Took me an afternoon to install in freezing weather
-Fits my NB subframe bracing (I was replacing a modified NB subframe anyway)
The mid:
-I can’t really access my normal diff fill plug (luckily I have another option on the side of the cover)
-Had some minor clearance issues with stock upper control arm and swaybar hardware. Nothing that couldn’t be fixed with some extra washers I had laying around
-Only uses 4 out of 6 chassis mounting points?
-Shipped with questionably oversize washers for mounting the front plate? They still kind of fit so I ran with them
-Is noticeably heavier than my modified oem frame (which was a v8r mounting kit, idk why they claim otherwise but it really doesn’t matter, I’d rather have the heavier stronger frame lol)
-Noticeably increased NVH from the diff, but they tell you that out of the gate.
The ugly:
-The alignment cams did not sit as tightly into the welded tabs as I wanted them, I may have cut and reweld the tabs tighter together if this becomes an issue. I have heard of other people having the opposite issue with their v8r frames though
-The overall length of the diff mounting provisions, front to back was off by about 1/8th of an inch. There is no real adjustability in this and that slop is basically taken up by twisting the front mounting tabs and deflecting my poly diff bushings. This makes it pretty much impossible for me to run solid aluminum diff bushings in the future, the only way I can think of fixing this is by milling down the mating surface of my rear cover, but that might not clear my ring gear.
The verdict:
-If you are a talented fabricator, or somebody who has a lot of free time, spend your $ elsewhere
-For me, somebody who is a pretty average fabricator and doesn’t have much time or space to build a better frame, this was a decent use of my federal tax return 👍
-It’s obviously not drag racing season where I live right now, so I can’t throw my slicks on and test it on a prepped surface yet, but from look and feel alone I can pretty much guarantee my subframe is no longer the weak point when launching my rear suspension. I’ve seen Matt Lamphier consistently run 1.3 second 60fts on this frame and that was enough to sell me on it.
Todd Montgomery –
It looks great, not yet installed. The box was damaged and one of the mounting points was sticking out. No obvious damage. I would like instructions if they are available. Thank you. Todd M

V8R Rear Subframe
I’ll make this short and sweet. The overall design and build quality is very good. Although I wasn’t a fan of the powder coat color, the finish was very nice and the CNC pieces were nicely machined. I believe it’s a good value for the price and I love that V8R is still making great components for these aging cars.
To be clear, my pics are different than what you get because I had my subframe powder coated black and the CNC pieces I had anodized red.
I’m giving it 4 stars because no directions are included. Hopefully they will provide this in the future.
